Fingerpori – cancelled
Finland’s most popular comic strip Fingerpori gets its own stamps.
Pertti Jarla created the Fingerpori strip which has been published in the Finnish daily newspaper Helsingin Sanomat since February 2007. The strip is also published in many other newspapers, and three different Fingerpori comic collection albums are published annually.
The series takes place in Fingerpori, a fictitious Finnish small town. The main character is Heimo Vesa, who wears glasses, but other residents also appear, such as the outspoken cafe waitress Rivo-Riitta.
The series is heavily based on wordplay and often features subjects that test the limits of political correctness.
The stamps feature Heimo Vesa in several roles, and, in one stamp, Rivo-Riitta makes a comment in her straightforward manner. “In general, the characters aren't based on real people, with the exception of Rivo-Riitta. In 2006, I studied in Lahti and frequented the Hiidenkivi pub. The bartender was quite outspoken, and she inspired me to create the character. Her appearance was different, but she otherwise resembles my cartoon character", Jarla reveals.
