Veteran tractors, Valmet 20, 1956 -mint

The stamp presenting a Valmet 20 from 1956 is one in a 3-year series featuring Veteran tractors in Åland. Starting in 2021, the stamp series will be completed in 2023. The series consists of a total of 6 stamps.

Production of the legendary Old-Reliable Valmet tractor started in Finland in 1951. The owner, Raul Petrell, received this Valmet 20 from 1956 as a gift from his mother when he was 10 years old. The tractor is still located on the farm on the island of Sottunga

Product description

Den 1 februari 2022 gavs två nya frimärken i Åland Posts frimärksserie med åländska veterantraktorer ut. Den andra delen hoppar fram några årtionden och visar en hemmabyggd traktor från början av 1940-talet och den finske trotjänaren Valmet 20 från 1956.

Frimärket visar en röd Valmet 20 från 1956 och denna traktor har sitt hem på skärgårdsön Sottunga. Ägaren Raul Petrell fick den i gåva av sin mor när han var i 10-årsåldern.

”Det var gårdens första traktor när jag fick den som helt ny från fabriken den 14 oktober 1956 och den kostade 384 500 gamla finska mark. Drygt 10 år använde jag traktorn i jordbruket framför bland annat slåttermaskinen, men även för att köra ut stock från skogen", minns Raul.
