The final 2026 stamp issue captures Åland in winter

On 23 October 2026, Åland Post rounds off the stamp year with the issue Winter dreams. Artist Juta Policja depicts winter in Åland in three gold shimmering stamp motifs, which are ideal for Christmas and winter greetings.

“We chose the theme Winter dreams to create space for contemplation and stillness — qualities that Juta Policja captures beautifully. Her three gold shimmering winter motifs invite us to pause, enjoy the beauty of winter and send greetings to family and friends,” says Johanna Finne, Head of Stamps at Åland Post.

The artist Juta Policja found inspiration for the issue Winter dreams on her winter walks in the countryside around her home in Sund, Åland. There, she often encounters the animals featured on the stamps: deer, fox and bullfinch.

“For me, winter is a magical time. The cold and the white snow make everything feel so clear and refreshing. I feel an urge to spend more time outdoors, enjoying the beauty of nature and winter activities,” says Juta Policja.

Policja’s artwork is characterised by rich textures and a harmonious colour palette. She is also well known for her icon painting, which is reflected in these stamps.

“I painted the stamp motifs in oil. For the skies and backgrounds, I used gold leaf, which gives the images an almost icon-like feel and a warm tone reminiscent of a sunset”, Juta explains.

The issue comprises three stamps with different denominations. The ‘Julpost’ (Christmas mail) stamp is issued in a sheet of 40 and is intended for Christmas greetings sent within Åland and to Finland. The ‘Världen’ (World) stamp is also issued in a sheet of 40 and can be used for winter greetings sent outside Europe. New this year is a self-adhesive mini-sheet of six stamps, suitable for winter and Christmas greetings sent to destinations in the Nordic countries and elsewhere in Europe.

The issue also includes a sheet of Christmas seals, featuring everyday objects associated with winter, such as a cup of steaming tea and a paper snowflake. As in previous years, the surplus of the sale of the Christmas seals will be donated to charity. The recipient will be presented in a separate press release later this autumn.
