On 23 October, Åland Post launches an exclusive and numbered album in only 300 copies. The album celebrates the completion of the stamp series interpreting the Chinese zodiac and gives you a great overview of the entire series that combines Åland culture with Chinese tradition. A collector's item for both thematic collectors and Åland enthusiasts worldwide
Twelve years of stamp art – from the Åland sheep to the Horse
The stamp series started in 2014 with the Åland sheep issue and is now completed with the 2025 Horse issue. Each motif interprets one of the Chinese horoscope animals with an Åland twist.
The idea for the series was born when Åland Post Stamps began a collaboration with stamp artist and engraver Martin Mörck, who was training ten graphic artists at the Postage Stamp Printing Bureau of China Post in the art of engraving. As a final project, a design competition was announced among the students to create and engrave a miniature sheet illustrating the Åland Sheep; this was the start of one of Åland Post's most appreciated stamp series. Martin Mörck has since illustrated ten of the twelve zodiac issues himself.
