In the annual online vote at alandstamps.com, collectors from all over the world voted for the most beautiful Åland 2024 stamp. The winning stamp features Åland archipelago and was created by Swedish artist Anette Gustafsson, who thus takes the title for the first time.
To celebrate the win, stamp artist Anette Gustafsson was felicitated with flowers and a diploma.
"I’m incredibly honoured that collectors voted for my stamp. That the motif has become so popular is great fun," says Anette.
Issued on 8 May 2024, the winning stamp was also the Åland contribution to the Sepac stamp series issued by the small postal administrations in Europe. The 2024 theme was top tourist attractions, and with her evocative watercolour painting, Anette has captured the unique Åland island world with thousands of islands, islets and skerries, as well as the collectors’ hearts.
Anette has created several esteemed stamps for Åland Post, but this is the first time her stamp has won the title of Åland's most beautiful stamp.
Second place in the vote went to the stamp On the islet, created by visual artist Carolina Sundelin, closely followed by the issue Boathouses, photographed by Kjell Söderlund, in third place.
"The archipelago is Åland's top attraction. With over 2500 people voting in the competition, we are delighted to see how engaged the collectors are. Anette's stamp artwork has touched many people and may even inspire more to discover the Åland nature and archipelago", says Johanna Finne, Design Manager at Åland Post Stamps.
The original artworks for the Archipelago and On the Islet stamp designs are on display at the post terminal of Åland Post in Sviby.
