Åland Post Stamps’ online vote to determine the most beautiful Åland stamp in 2023 attracted a record number of voters. More than 3000 collectors from all over the world took the chance to vote and, when all votes were counted, it was clear that the stamp featuring Parrot crossbill took home the title of most beautiful stamp of the year. We congratulated stamp artist Bo Lundwall with a flower bouquet and diploma. “This is an enormously pleasant award! It is very inspiring to receive appreciation from collectors”, Bo says.
“Counting the votes for the most beautiful stamp of the year is always exciting, and we've had great response from collectors all over the world. Animal and nature motifs are popular among collectors, and artist Bo Lundwall is a master of detailed paintings with strong ties to nature. We’re delighted that the beautiful Parrot crossbill stamp has been appreciated by so many”, says Johanna Finne, Marketing Design Manager at Åland Post Stamps.
The stamp Parrot crossbill was issued on 15 March 2023, and this is the third time that Swedish animal and nature artist Bo Lundwall’s stamp illustration wins the title of Åland’s most beautiful stamp. His first win was the stamp booklet featuring loons and grebes in 2013. In 2019, his franking labels featuring four different types of woodpeckers took first prize.
We congratulated the stamp artist for winning the title most beautiful 2023 stamp with a flower delivery and diploma.
“It's great fun that the people who vote find my images appealing, and it's very inspiring to get appreciation from collectors and the public," Bo says.
In second place, we find the stamp booklet Summer cottages which was issued on 9 June 2023. The booklet and its three stamps were illustrated by Lars Sjööblom, capturing Åland cottage life.
Mari Oksanen’s franking labels on the theme garden berries came in third. Issued on 3 January 2023, the franking labels illustrated the berry varieties black currants, raspberries, gooseberries, and strawberries.
Many thanks to you who participated in the vote. Among all who voted, we have drawn lots for a secret box of Åland collectibles and a number of consolation prizes, which have been posted to the lucky winners.
