On 9 June, Åland Post launches four new postal stationery cards celebrating floral art and sustainable cultivation. Tiina Tahvanainen has photographed and arranged the tastefully composed flower arrangements from cut flower garden Älvdalens Trädgård on Åland. Postage from Åland to the entire world is included in the price of the cards.
Eco-friendly flower arrangements with a local touch
Tiina Tahvanainen tells us about her vision for this year’s series of postal stationery cards:
“I wanted to create floral, organic arrangements that reflect the flower selection of Älvdalen, especially dahlias, the garden specialty. To emphasize the organic vision of Älvdalen, I used, for the first time, instead of an oasis a flower fakir along with recycled vases as props in front of my hand-painted backdrop.”
Tiina describes the process as both inspiring and challenging.
“The biggest challenge was waiting for the flowers to bloom and limiting myself, given the impressive range of flowers. My personal favourite is the white composition where everything really harmonizes,” Tiina reveals.
Älvdalens Trädgård – sustainable cut flowers from Åland
The cut flower garden Älvdalens Trädgård in Torrbolstad, Finström, is a haven for self-picking and flourishing creativity, focusing on cultivating cut flowers with long vase life. The flowers are cultivated with a strong environmental focus, completely free of pesticides and artificial fertilizers.
“We wish to offer flowers that are beautiful for the soul and kind to the environment. It’s fantastic to now also spread sustainable floral joy through these cards,” says Helena, one of the owners of the garden.

Each postal stationery card has a unique postage-paid symbol that highlights the main motif of the card: glandular globe-thistle, dahlia, sunflower and garden cosmos.
