Midsummer, 4 cards -mint
Midsummer, an important and much celebrated feast in Åland, is celebrated close to summer solstice some day between 19 and 26 June. The Midsummer pole is characteristic to Åland Midsummer and a pole is raised in villages all over Åland on Midsummer Eve. As symbols of fertility and greenery, poles measuring 10 to 25 metres are decorated with greens and colourful Midsummer crowns. The menu on Midsummer Eve tends to include pickled herring, new potatoes cooked with dill and barbecued meat, to be finished off with strawberry cream-cake.
The postage paid symbol on the address side of each card is associated with the motif of the respective card. Postage is thus included in the price of the cards that may be posted in Åland to any destination in the world.
